Pennsylvania Ballroom Scrimmage 2010
The Dance Factory recently traveled to Pennsylvania to attend the 4th Annual Pennsylvania Ballroom Scrimmage on October 17th. The event was hosted by Barbra Synder and Mandy Kuhn. We attended this event when it first appeared on the competition calendar a few years ago, and it's always been fun. Now in it's fourth year, the Pennsylvania Ballroom Scrimmage is a well established dance event, attracting dancers from DC, Maryland, and Virginia. The event was held in the luxurious Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square, a newly built hotel and convention center with luxurious rooms and a impressive sized ballroom. This year the event had a record number of entries, with full championship rounds. The Dance Factory attended the Scrimmage in larger numbers this year, bringing four professional dancers, six amateur dancers, and three spectators. Dimitri Dolgopolov danced with Christa Mason and Suzi Smith. Roxi Holloway danced with David Russell and Azhar Manipady, and I danced with Julie Manipady and Trang Ouk. I am very happy to report that Trang Ouk placed third in the Closed Smooth Championship round with me, and Suzi Smith Placed first with me in the Open Rhythm Championship Round. Students from the Dance Factory placed in every Bronze and Silver American Style Championship Round. The event came to a fabulous end with a black tie dinner with a LIVE band for general dancing. During the dinner it was announced that the Dance Factory took the Top Studio Award. It was a great way to end such a happy and successful weekend. We hope to attend the event again next year.
